this is probably how I feel about reading! if it helps re: Utopia if you wait until the series is over I can tell you whether you need to watch ep 1 or not (I think it was annoyingly pointless if you’ve somehow missed my ranting)
I saw the ranting, didn’t read as I didn’t want too many spoilers - I probably won’t end up watching it until after the series is over, so I might check with you then
(I thought it would be reading, I assumed that would happen after an English degree, but no, that’s fine - perhaps because I’m better with things that use up all my concentration, I don’t know)

fic: Every Little Helps
The Thick of It, Adam Kenyon/Fergus Williams, 1400 words
Fergus really hates the Westminster branch of Tesco. Regardless, he always seems to find himself there.
Wrote this for alichay and placetnemagistra, who both seemed like they could do with a bit of ridiculous Adam/Fergus.
the thick of it
yes I write fic based around actual branches of supermarkets now

dw I still maintain you saved us from a greater fate. plus you had a really good go at the monologue and it was fucking hilarious
Oh Irvine Welsh’s Ecstasy, so terrible even I remember that as much as I saw was terrible
(you’re lucky my brain is so obsessed with that play, or you might’ve got ‘friends, romans, countrymen’ instead, and that’s much longer and I would have been far more likely to get that completely wrong)

flashbacks to you trying to recite this drunk
I am proud of absolutely nothing from that night except the fact that my brain thought trying to recite this speech was clearly the best way to prove I was ‘fine’ (and then getting it wrong because I clearly wasn’t)

E rated……. ace fics………..
and within that, we also have lovely subcategories such as ‘dubious consent’, ‘wait you’re really doing ace omegaorwhateververse stuff’, and ‘some of those tags make me want to slam my eyes shut what the fuck is the fic like’

maybe I should do a mini Hal/Poins one first as practice (Hal hanging around the spaceport bar (aka the cantina), trying to get into the smuggling business for kicks…)

alichay said: I’d say we should write and star in Crushing Inadequacy: The Musical, except we’d probably both consider ourselves not good enough to do either
you have really hit the nail on the head, problem-wise
to be fair
if we tried to write a musical
most of the songs would probably start
'for fuck's sake why are people singing'

I was gonna say you already know all of it anyway :P you probably actually remember more of it than I do tbh YOU SHOULD JUST WRITE IT
ahahaha well you do just feed me your headcanons so I’m able to write you fic

yeah I think this is The Thing, unfortunately it’s such a big and quite niche task that it’s at the bottom of my list really…
Yeah, I didn’t expect that you were suddenly going to throw everything down and try and write a huge thing for a very tiny fandom, but I thought I’d make the point anyway :P it’s not like I’ve not been treated to it in verbal form anyway!

tbf it’s my inability to write historical dialogue that puts me off the most, I can SO doeal with historical rubbish (it’s something I’m actually reasonably good at)
I’d just say not to bother, there’s no accuracy you could actually achieve anyway (well, other than not using things that sound really modern) as it’s a history play so not written in the same type of English as the time it’s set - my usual technique is just to write things that don’t sound too modern, and not worry otherwise.
in case you ever did actually want to write it

GOD I WISH I COULD WRITE IT
it would be so good but it would require so much research into historical stuff and hand waving over the bits Shakespeare already confused
we can just imagine its greatness
